This is a private reference site, not a government office. It cannot confirm custody, release a person, post bond, schedule visits, or pull official booking, jail, or court records. Use the official offices below for those requests.

Official Record Contacts

Sierra County inmate and court questions often split between the Sheriff-Coroner, the contracted jail that physically houses the person, Sierra Superior Court, and the District Attorney. Start with the office that owns the specific record you need.

Sierra County Sheriff-Coroner
100 Courthouse Sq., 1st Floor
P.O. Box 66
Downieville, CA 95936
Phone: 530-289-3700
Records contact: Autumn Barry, Executive Assistant to the Sheriff
Administrative Services hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

The Sheriff's records page says to wait at least 10 business days after an incident before requesting a report. Sierra charges $40 per report plus $0.25 per page after 20 pages. Active criminal matters under investigation, under District Attorney review, or in court action are referred to the District Attorney for release decisions.

  • For current custody or booking location, start with the Sheriff and the jail inmate records path.
  • For booking photos or photo request limits, use the jail roster mugshots information.
  • For filed charges, pleas, dispositions, or court copies, use court records after a jail arrest and Sierra Superior Court.
  • For Wayne Brown custody questions, call Wayne Brown Correctional Facility at 530-265-1291.
  • For occasional Plumas County housing, call Plumas County Correctional Facility at 530-283-6267.
  • For sentenced state-prison records, use California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation's statewide locator.
  • For federal or immigration custody, use the Bureau of Prisons inmate locator or ICE detainee locator.

Court and Prosecutor Contacts

Sierra Superior Court handles the filed criminal case. The clerk phone number is 530-289-3698. Research and copy requests go by mail to Sierra County Superior Court, P.O. Box 476, Downieville, CA 95936. The court does not offer an online case-management name search, so written research requests are the main path when no case number is known.

The Sierra County District Attorney is the prosecuting office for local criminal cases. District Attorney Sandra A. Groven's office can be reached at 530-289-3269. The office lists Monday-Friday hours of 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., closed noon-1:00 p.m. Active criminal cases referred by the Sheriff's Office may be subject to District Attorney release decisions.
